Turbine and Compressor Blades
 |
 |
StarragHeckert has many years of experience in the machining of high precision turbine blades. Especially the machining of blade roots on 4-axis machining centres and the complete machining of blades in a single set-up on our 5-axis machines.

Turbine and Compressor Blades
 |
 |
The configuration of our 5-axis machines, and the special arrangement of the Spindle and the axis allows for the complete machining of a turbine blade in a single set-up.
Our blade machines are particularly suitable for the machining of:
- Gas washed surfaces, including leading and trailing edges and transition areas
- Complete machining, including blade roots and shrouds
- Milling of aerofoils to length
(no secondary operation required) |

Turbine and Compressor Blades
 |
 |
| Precision forged workpieces, as for example fan blades, are generally already finished in the aerofoil area. However, before the component is ready for building into the engine, certain other features such as leading and trailing edges, snubbers and transition areas have to be optimised in complicated machining techniques. In these cases, the capabilities of the StarragHeckert blade milling machines, and particularly the adaptive milling feature, come into their own. Thanks to decades of experience in the 5 axis machining of gas washed surfaces, we possess the necessary know-how to competently support you in every area, be it with programming, with our in-house developedRCS-Softwareor the selection and development of our owntools. |

Blade Repair
 |
 |
As well as the manufacture of new blades, our machines have the capability to machine worn and damaged turbine blades. Our engineers have many years of experience in the areas of welding, probing and the development of special fixturing
Production or repair savings can be in
excess of 50%
Within the Gas Turbine industries typical cost savings for repair or manufacture of any given part can be in excess
of 50% with significant reductions in cycle time,
non-conformance, and labour costs by the elimination of handwork and human error.
By utilising a TTL computer based automatic system linked to standard CNC Machinery, a better quality component is made or repaired faster, more reliably, and at less cost. |
